New to Storm-cast composted seaweed?
Storm-cast is seaweed
washed ashore by winter storms, gathered, composted and bagged locally in
Queens county for use as an all purpose fertilizer/soil amendment. Most
gardeners prefer the 18 kg bag because, like us, they use it for potting,
transplanting, top dressing all sorts of indoor and outdoor plants, food and
ornamental. Because Storm-cast is solely fully- composted seaweed it
is a dense product. Some of our customers are moving to the 13.5 (30 pounds) or
9 kg (20 pound) bag.
More Nova Scotians are appreciating
the health and environmental benefits of gardening and of thinking and buying
locally. Storm-cast fertilizer/soil
amendment is a 100% Nova Scotia natural resource, produced locally, and
available only in Nova Scotia.
Under license from NS Dept. of
Natural Resources Bear Cove Resources has been collecting beach wrack from the
headlands of Liverpool Bay since 1993.
The wrack is composted at our NS Dept of Environment licensed facility
in East Berlin to produce Storm-cast.
The product is 100% screened composted wrack, which as collected contains
varying small admixtures of sand and shells, attractively bagged in 6 mil
recyclable/reusable plastic bags made by Farnell Packaging of Dartmouth, NS.
Storm-cast has been marketed through
garden centers and direct sales on a limited basis along the South Shore and
metro-Halifax since 1994 with many appreciative repeat customers. They tell us
that they spread their use of our composted seaweed throughout their gardening
year- spring wakeup, summer maintenance and fall boost. They use it indoor all
year round.
We are increasing production
and invite enquiries from other Nova Scotia locations.
