Perennial Order Arrival & May Social+Plant Swap

Thank you to everyone who came out to enjoy Niki Jabbour at the library this week.  She had so many great ideas for crops in pots!  I think my personal favorite was the salad table!  I need to make me one-a-those!!  :)

We have received word that the perennial order will be arriving on Wed. May 15.  We can always use recycled grocery bags if you have any hanging around!  We will also be looking for volunteers who would be available to be at John and Freeman's house (12 Hunters Hill Lane, Terance Bay) starting at noon to help with sorting and bagging up the orders.  Just email or phone John and Freeman to let them know you're available: keyplayer@ns.sympatico.ca ... 852-3147

If you have a placed an order, they will be available for pickup between 5pm and 8pm on Wednesday and Thursday.  No need to call to make an appointment, just drop by during those times :)

Finally, a reminder that our May 22nd meeting is our last one of the season.  We'll be having our annual pot luck social and plant swap - and some other fun activities!  So, whip up your favorite finger food, sandwich, casserole, dessert or beverage and bring it along for our world-class buffet!!  And, if you have divisions or plant babies that volunteered where you don't want them, dig 'em up and bring them along too - they'll be sure to find a loving new home!!

As always, non-perishable donations for our local food bank are most appreciated.

Fine Print:
In an effort to provide interest for everyone, we have tried our best to include a wide variety of bloom times, colors, plant traits and prices in each category.  This year we are also offering some specialty day lilies that are schedule to be discontinued by the supplier.  We have done our best to find good pictures and descriptions of these varieties.  The cost for these special plants is higher than we usually include, but we wanted to provide the opportunity to order them if they interest you.

Have fun planning your gardens!

  • Local Food Bank Donations
  • Collecting Perennial Orders
  • Garden Club Seed Swap
  • Guest speaker, Niki Jabbour
Tonight, we welcomed special guest, Oren Hercz who treated us to some delicious herbal remedies for cold and flu season!  Thanks for a great attendance on such a cold night!

Keep an eye out for the perennial order being posted by this weekend!  Share it with family, friends and neighbors this month and bring the order forms and cash/cheques to the Feb.27 meeting!  We always look forward to this annual fund-raiser and we hope you'll enjoy the variety in this year's selections!

Next month, we will have another special guest, Niki Jabbour, who will be educating us on the intricacies of year round vegetable gardening.  If you are so inclined, Nikki's book is available in stores or on-line in hard-cover, paperback, and e-book formats.

We know that this topic will leave you inspired to get gardening so we'll be starting the evening off with a seed swap!  Bring your seed stash and some baggies or envelopes and get started on this year's garden planning!

Once again, we will be collecting donations for our food bank who helps support local families in need.

It's going to be a busy night so we'll plan to start collecting the perennial orders at 7pm!  We'll aim for Niki's talk to begin shortly after 7:30pm.

Hope to see you there! :)

Inspiration Meeting: Wed. Mar. 28

It's the time of year when we can smell the earth thawing so we dig out our gloves and go in search of signs of Spring in our gardens!  We're getting our ideas together for the season and gathering inspiration for the gardening months ahead as everything turns green again.

To help kick start your gardening season, we're planning a Garden Inspiration Meeting on Wednesday, March 28th!  This meeting will be all about our members, sharing, learning and getting the inside scoop with HOT gardening tips from each other!

Sooooooo.... for this meeting, we are asking everyone to dig around in your gardening stash and find your favorite garden-related item!!  Anything goes, everything qualifies! We would like you to dust it off, bring it to our meeting and tell us in 2 minutes or less why it's your favorite and you just couldn't imagine living without it!

What'll it be?  Your favorite:

  • rubber boots
  • watering can
  • shovel
  • bird bath
  • garden reference
  • insect repellant

  • planter
  • fertilizer
  • deer repellant
  • knee pads
  • garden decor
  • weed eater

  • garden rake
  • plant tags
  • tool kit
  • garden cart
  • composter
  • feeder

I bet some of you will know instantly what you need to show us!  I bet some of you are wondering which of your many favorites to choose!  If it's something not easily transported, just bring us a picture of it!  I can't wait to see what everyone brings - and I can't wait to hear why!

We will once again be collecting for the local food bank, so please bring along a food item for the donation box - every bit helps!

AND DON'T FORGET YOUR PERENNIAL ORDERS!! :D
(order forms are in the right hand menu of our site)

Hi everyone!

Thank you all for such a great turn out to hear Paul Dickie teach us all about bees!  I will be sharing more information regarding his farm and some bee-related links as soon as I receive them.

Mar. 28.

John reminded us that we had a 10% off coupon on our seed packets from Allison at Halifax Seed.  He picked up a mushroom starter kit with his - how kewl!!

Bill Mercier mentioned that we will be receiving our berries so we will be owing him for what we ordered when they arrive (urg... I believe that was going to be in April?? - please email me if I'm wrong!)

See you again in March!

Collect Perennial Orders &
Bringing Birds To The Garden

Hi everyone!

Have you been out in your yards looking for signs of spring?  What did you find?  Anyone seen a robin yet?  Wendy saw a caterpillar!

If you haven't already downloaded your copy of the perennial order form, it's in the sidebar here on this page.  Feel free to share it with friends and family.  Every plant sold helps raise funds to cover our costs, so spread the word! :)  We will be collecting the order forms at this meeting on Wednesday, March 23.

Our guest speaker is going to be Clarence Stevens.  He will be talking about attracting birds to your yard and some of the benefits that can have for your plants.  I can't wait to hear his tips and tricks!  Love having all of the little finches and such in the yard!

As always, we will have a box for donations to our local community food bank at St. Timothy's.

Hope to see you there!
